Americana describes a genre of music that developed in the 1990's as an alternative to modern Country and is derived from traditional country, western swing, rockabily and alternative country-rock.

Americana radio stations focus on these genres as well as other "roots" music, such as zydeco, Tex-Mex and American folk music.
